SQM offers normalizing heat treatment for carbon and low-alloy steels to achieve uniform grain structure, improved mechanical properties, and enhanced machinability. Components are heated to 850–950°C above the upper critical temperature, then air-cooled under controlled conditions to refine the ferrite-pearlite microstructure and reduce internal stresses from prior processing.
This treatment is particularly suited for forged, cast, or welded parts that require dimensional stability and consistent behavior in subsequent machining, hardening, or forming operations. Normalizing also improves toughness and tensile strength, making it a preferred step for components used in structural, automotive, and pressure-related applications. All thermal cycles are fully traceable and monitored via digital temperature logging systems in compliance with ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 standards.
